When you first decide to create a press release, brochure, video, CD-ROM, website or any other communications vehicle, you may have many questions: Where do we start? What do we talk about at a first meeting? What do I have to do to prepare? Who does what during the production process? How much does it cost?
Let's take them one at a time:
Where do we start?
Presumably, you have something to say and know who the message is aimed at. You also may have some idea of the medium you want to use to convey the message, the tone of the message, and what you want the audience to do or know after the message has been communicated...as well as some rough ideas for creative ways to communicate the message.While all of these are helpful, however, all you really need at this point are the first two: a message and an intended audience. When we hear from you, we'll ask you about the above elements, and we'll schedule an initial meeting.
What do we cover at the initial meeting and what do I have to do to prepare?
At the first meeting, you'll present your message and audience, and any background materials or information you'd like to provide.We'll ask you about the medium, tone, and desired effect of your message, so you should also start thinking about these. If you're not sure of one or more, however, don't worry - we can help you define or refine them.
Finally, once we've got the basics down, we'll begin brainstorming some creative ideas.
What happens next?
After the first meeting, we'll take your background information and begin working on a creative proposal. When it's done, we'll present it to you and together we'll discuss further refinements of the ideas proposed.After the proposal is approved, we begin the writing phase. Using the information you provided, we'll produce a draft of the copy, script or content. As we work, each draft will be presented to you as it's finished, for your further input, refinement and approval.
Once the script or copy is approved (or, sometimes, during the approval process), we begin pre-production, the process of design, hiring various technical, design and/or crew people, and figuring out how and where production of each element of the project will take place.
Who does what during production?
During production, you may be as involved or uninvolved in the day-to-day activities as you like. Leaping Lizard can manage the full production of your approved script or copy and return with a finished product several weeks later...or you may work with us during any or all the steps of scheduling, hiring, design, casting, shooting, programming, etc.And then what?
If you're producing a video or multimedia project, once the initial video and graphic elements have been shot or created, we move into post-production, which includes editing of the video and/or editing video elements and programming the multimedia presentation. Once again, you may count on Leaping Lizard to supervise this process from start to finish (with your approval sought at critical points), or you may choose to actually sit in on video editing sessions and contribute as we go.What does it cost?
Although this is often the most frequently asked question when considering production of communications materials, it's also the most difficult to answer without specific details. Video productions, for example, can range in price from $100 to $1,000,000...depending on concept, audience, objective, budget, location, sets, props, staff, crew, production schedule and dozens of other details.
